Don’t be fooled by the handsome face. Shane Watson has seen enough turmoil to appreciate each day of cricket he plays. Surprisingly he is at his best reviving it when he is in India.
Watson’s brush with injuries and lack of form have seen him jump in and out of the Australian team and earn the wrath of the former Australian cricketers.
However, no one would dare lay a finger on Watson today. The reason is that Watson has grabbed all his chances that have come his way in the past two years and made them count. In fact after Ricky Ponting, the Australian captain, and Michael Hussey, Watson has taken on responsibility with the air of a senior member and played a pivotal role in ensuring that Australia won the India Australia ODI series.
But the most surprisingly aspect is that while nine of the Australian cricketers were injured prior to or in the course of this tour, Watson has been relatively pain free and injury free, which is not what he could have said before the IPL began. His being picked by Shane Warne for the Rajasthan Royals was a second life for him and this innings is surely painting Watson in a dangerous, ambitious light.
Watch out, he is only coming into his own.
